Silver Stars History

The parachute team was formed in 1963 to represent the Royal Corps of Transport (RCT). The team name the Silver Stars was adopted taking its name from the pointed star of the Corps cap badge.

After the formation of the Royal Logistic Corps in 1993 the Royal Army Ordnance Corps (RAOC) parachute team the "Cannonballs" amalgamated with the RCT parachute team retaining the name "Silver Stars" reflecting the new Corps badge.

The team rely on team members being released from regimental duties to represent the RLC on parachute displays and other key events. The current establishment of three full time staff is not sufficient to run a parachute training school and carry out a busy display season. The part time team members continue with their regimental duties, which could take them anywhere in the world at short notice.

Each member has to have completed at least 200 parachute descents before participating in a public display.

The current full time staff are: Sgt Tony Goodman, Lance Corporal Tom Parry and Lance Corporal Chas McNeil.
