The British Parachute Association is the governing body for Sport Parachuting in Great Britain, and is reponsible to the Civil Aviation Authority, the Royal Aero Club and the Federation Aeronautique for the sport's safe conduct and control.
Every year hunderds of Sports Parachute Displays, given by members of the British Parachute Association, entertain thousands at shows, Galas, Carnivals and Fetes. Authority to give these displays is given annually to each BPA Registered Team by the Civil Aviation Authority.
When considering the suitability of your event for a Parachute Display, the following conditions must apply to all displays.
- Arena must be a minimum size of 75m x 75m
- Must be adequate overshoot areas surrounding arena
- At least 28 days notice must be given before the display date
- Are not within restricted air space
- Landowners must give written permission for display to go ahead
- Organisers must be able to guarantee crowd control
Each display basically consists of a number of parachutists exiting the aircraft at a pre-determined release point, free-falling for a number of seconds before opening their parachutes by 2,000 feet above ground level. The controlled descent from 2,000 feet to target area takes about 2 minutes and the use of a sophisticated sport parachute ensures great accuracy.
